Space Pirates 1.6


I have released Space Pirates 1.5 and 1.6. 1.5 is my attempt at making the game cross platform. I have tested it on a Linux machine and am hoping it works on a Mac (I had a request for it to run on Macs, but I don't have a Mac). I have also released Space Pirates 1.6 for Windows which includes a bunch of exciting changes!

1.6 adds two levels and additional story text. I also spent time updating the AI to be a little smarter; it will now defend its bases from attacks. One thing that had been missing from the game, and which was painful, was a lack of cost information on each item. Now when you hover over buttons, cost information will be provided along with what that button will buy. Another nice change is reduced time on the loading screen. It should take seconds instead of a minute to load the game.

What is now the third level used to be the only level. I have made it so that the AI will create builders and send them to build colonies, but they pick build plots at random. Because the AI will get complex very quickly, I want to change my approach to the game. Instead of introducing construction to the player and AI in the first level, I plan on making a few levels with increasing difficulty. In that way, it introduces players to the concepts in the game slowly and it gives me time to improve the AI on its core skills. The first level introduces the basic build, defend, and attack behaviors to the AI. In the second level, it uses those when it has multiple bases. I plan on creating a new level where the AI can build two types of units. I may then start creating levels with construction in them.
